About A Webmaster - What You Need To Know

Dedicated Servers

March 23, 2007

If you're going to be hosting on a dedicated server, you'll have to identify your requirements in terms of RAM and CPU speed as well. Though dedicated hosting is recommended for those who are serious about their websites, they tend to be expensive so you may want to secure a consistent revenue stream before moving to a dedicated server.

Once you've grown your website to a point where you have a revenue stream that can support a standalone server, I encourage you to do so. Though you may not necessarily need the horsepower of a dedicated server right away, there are other advantages to a dedicated server.

One of the biggest advantages of a dedicated server is control. Not only control over the machine itself, but rather control of what's running on the machine. With shared hosting, you have no control over what others are doing with your shared network and system resources. Most of the time, this issue is of minimal concern and a shared host is more than adequate. But if your website is generating a revenue stream capable of supporting a dedicated hosting plan, you're dealing with enough money that you should go the extra mile and remove one of the risks to your revenue.
