SEO and Link Campaign

Step 5 - Basic Search Engine Optimization

At this point, you should have a complete, functioning website. Now it's time to move past the basics and get into the fun stuff.

By now you should be very familiar with your site and have a good idea as to what you want to do from a search engine optimization perspective. So go through your site once more, tweaking titles, headers, copy and link text to suit your needs.

It's difficult to decide when this step is "done" as there is always something you can do to improve your on-page search engine optimization. But just go for the low-hanging fruit this time around. Take care of the simple optimizations now and address the smaller details later on when you've got some more time or it becomes a more pressing issue.

Step 6 - Link Building Campaign

The next part of any good optimization campaign is to embark on a link building campaign. Though this step is very critical to a site ranking well, we only begin after completing the previous steps. We do this because you want your site to be clean, complete and in overall good shape when another webmaster reviews it. The more polished your site, the better position you'll be in when requesting links.

The best kind of link is going to be a one-way link from an on-topic site. These should be your primary target. But don't discount other linking opportunities. Most any link has some value. So don't ignore any potential link source even if it has no search engine optimization value on the surface. Aside from SEO value, a good link can bring in a significant volume of targeted visitors to your site. A link like this is worth its weight in gold, SEO value aside.
